There are two methods for connecting Beacons. This method uses the Nokia WiFi app, the other doesn't. A beacon is another name for a Wi-Fi mesh node. Your Nokia router (ONT) will also be a member of the mesh network. This means that your could have the Nokia ONT in one part of the house and a beacon in another part of the house and both units will be broadcasting a single Wi-Fi network. The larger the house, the more beacons you may need. We can only support Nokia Beacons supplied by B4RN.
Before proceeding, ensure you have installed the Nokia WiFi App. It is available for iOS and Android.
Setting up Beacons with the Nokia WiFi app
1. Open the Nokia WiFi app at the Network page
Select the WiFi points tab and click anywhere in the box marked Add WiFi point
2. Placement tips
Click Next. The following pages will give advice on placement
3. Add the Beacon
Locate the QR code on the base of the Beacon and click Scan code. The Nokia WiFi app will scan the QR code and identify the Beacon.
Some pages will follow that advise how to test if the proposed location of the Beacon will be suitable.
The Nokia WiFi app will advise if the proposed location is suitable. In the screenshot below, it advises that the Beacon should be placed further away from the Nokia ONT (router).
Once you've confirmed the optimum location for the Beacon, place the Beacon in that location and power it on.
You can select a location name for the Beacon or create your own.
The Beacon will now connect to your existing Wi-Fi network. Click Okay and the Beacon will shortly be visible in the Nokia WiFi app and be ready for use.
