How to set up a Nokia Beacon without the Nokia WiFi app

There are two methods for connecting Beacons. One uses the Nokia WiFi app, this method doesn't. A beacon is another name for a Wi-Fi mesh node. Your Nokia router (ONT) will also be a member of the mesh network. This means that your could have the Nokia ONT in one part of the house and a beacon in another part of the house and both units will be broadcasting a single Wi-Fi network. The larger the house, the more beacons you may need. We can only support beacons supplied by B4RN.

Setting up Beacons without the Nokia WiFi app

1. Plug in

Plug in the power adaptor and then connect it to the back of your Beacon 6

2. Power on

Push the on/off button, the LED on the front of the device will turn on

3. Connect Ethernet

Plug the Ethernet cable into the blue WAN port on your Beacon 6

4. Connect to your Nokia ONT (router)

Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable into a yellow LAN port on the Nokia ONT (router)

5. Wait for the blue light

The light on your Beacon 6 will turn blue when it is ready.

6. Place Beacons in position

Remove the Ethernet cable from the Beacon. The light will turn red. Wait for it to turn blue. Once all your Beacons are configured, you can now place them around your home, no further than two rooms apart.

7. Connect to W-Fi

Connect your devices using the SSID and Wi-Fi key you use for the main Nokia ONT (router) as the Beacon/s are now meshed with that Wi-Fi network.
