Here are some steps for troubleshooting Wi-Fi Calling.
- Check the mobile operator's status page. There can be outages that just affect Wi-Fi Calling
- If this is a new phone, check that your mobile operator supports Wi-Fi Calling on your particular make, model and year of phone. Just because you have a Wi-Fi Calling enabled phone, the mobile operator may not choose to support Wi-Fi Calling on that model. Generally speaking, the big mobile operators will support more models. The mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) generally support a smaller range e.g. Voxi, Smarty, Lebara, Asda, Sky, Tesco, GiffGaff etc.
- Check you have enabled Wi-Fi Calling on your phone. Most phones have a toggle switch in the phone settings to turn it on.
Testing Wi-Fi Calling
- Put the phone into Airplane mode. Double check all radios are turned off - i.e. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mobile data, mobile calls.
- Now turn on Wi-Fi ONLY
- Make sure the phone is getting a Wi-Fi connection.
- Try and make a phone call. If it works, then that suggests Wi-Fi Calling is working and you are likely to see Wi-Fi calling displayed on the phone. If it doesn't work, then that suggests Wi-Fi Calling isn't working.
- After testing, remember to deactivate Airplane mode and ensure all radios are reactivated.
